MP: Three charred to death as vehicle catches fire after collision

Three persons were charred to death when their four-wheeler caught fire after hitting a dumper in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh early on Saturday, a police official said. The accident took place at Bhauransa on Bhopal-Indore highway, about 14 kms from the district  headquarters, he said.

Illegal coal trade: CBI raids 40 locations across 3 states, including West Bengal

The CBI on Saturday started a massive search operation at 40 locations across three states including the premises of some alleged coal smugglers. The searches which are primarily spread across West Bengal pertain to a new case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the official said.

Toxic foam scatters over bridge in Madurai's Sellur following heavy rains. Watch Video

Locals in Madurai witnessed toxic foam on parts of the Vaigai river and the Sellur pond on Saturday due to excessive water pollution. The foam was a result of mixing the waste water in ponds and rivers with the rain water. Fire department officials were called to spray water along a channel of the Vaigai river, over a bridge in the Sellur area. Heavy rains had lashed Madurai Friday night following which the water levels in the pond and the river rose.

Delhi's air quality deteriorates to 'poor' zone

Delhi''s air quality slipped back into the "poor" category on Saturday, a day after it had improved significantly due to favourable wind speed. The city''s air quality index (AQI) was 209 at 9 am. The 24-hour average AQI was 137 on Friday, 302 on Thursday and 413 on Wednesday.

Two-wheeler owners to now use only BIS-certified helmets, govt issues notification

Now, two-wheeler owners in India will wear only Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified helmets, as the government on Friday said only BIS-certified helmets would be manufactured and sold in India for two-wheelers. According to a statement provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the development would help avoiding sale of low-quality two-wheeler helmets in the country. This, in turn, would help avoid fatal injuries in case of road accidents, it said.
