The two-day nationwide strike to protest against policies of the Union government entered the second day on Tuesday. The joint forum of central trade unions is protesting against the government policies affecting workers, farmers, and people. Their demands include the scrapping of the labour codes, no privatisation in any form, scrapping of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), increased allocation of wages under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and regularisation of contract workers.

JDU leader Deepak Mehta shot dead in Bihar's Danapur area
Janata Dal (United) leader Deepak Kumar Mehta was shot dead on Monday by criminals in Bihar's Danapur. He was shot twice earlier this evening, one bullet in the chest and another in the head. Mehta, the Vice-President of Nagar Parishad Danapur was later rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to bullet wounds.

Delhi Customs seizes gold worth Rs 7.5 crore from two Kenyan citizens
The Delhi airport customs department on Monday seized gold worth Rs 7.5 crore at the international airport here from two Kenyan men, officials said. In one of the biggest seizures in the recent past, the accused were intercepted after they arrived from Nairobi via Addis Ababa on Monday morning, and a search resulted in the recovery of 19 gold bars collectively weighing 15.57 kg concealed in specially made pockets, they said.

Lucknow court frames charges against Mukhtar Ansari in case of assault of jail officials
Jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari was produced before a special MP/MLA court in Lucknow from the Banda jail on Monday in a 22-year-old criminal case. Special judge Ambrish Kumar Srivastava framed charges against Ansari in the case and fixed April 8 as the date for recording of prosecution evidence.
