Janata Dal (United) leader Deepak Kumar Mehta was shot dead on Monday by criminals in Bihar's Danapur. He was shot twice earlier this evening, one bullet in the chest and another in the head. Mehta, the Vice-President of Nagar Parishad Danapur was later rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to bullet wounds.

The Delhi airport customs department on Monday seized gold worth Rs 7.5 crore at the international airport here from two Kenyan men, officials said. Jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari was produced before a special MP/MLA court in Lucknow from the Banda jail on Monday in a 22-year-old criminal case. Special judge Ambrish Kumar Srivastava framed charges against Ansari in the case and fixed April 8 as the date for recording of prosecution evidence.
In a significant development, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday registered a case against former BSP MLA and jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari under the Gangster Act. According to the details, 12 other associates of Ansari have also been booked by the police in connection with the case related to the use of an ambulance which was used to transport Ansari to and from the Punjab jail. 
Some of the essential services related to banking, transportation, railways and electricity are likely to be impacted during a two-day nationwide strike called by a joint forum of central trade unions beginning Monday. The strike notices were given by workers' unions of various sectors such as coal, steel, oil, telecom, postal, income tax, copper, banks and insurance. The unions' demands include the scrapping of the proposed changes in labour laws, privatisation of any form and the national monetisation pipeline.
