K'taka govt bans Hijab, saffron scarves in schools run by minority welfare department

The Karnataka government on Thursday ordered that the students studying in schools managed by the minority welfare department including the Maulana Azad Model English Medium schools in the state should not wear saffron scarves, Hijab or any religious flags.

India objects to Singapore PM's comments on Indian lawmakers

India on Thursday conveyed to Singapore its strong objection to Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's comments that almost half of the lawmakers in the Lok Sabha have criminal charges pending against them, people familiar with the development said. It is learnt that Singapore's high commissioner to India Simon Wong was called to the Ministry of External Affairs and he was conveyed that the comments were "uncalled for" and that India objected to them.

UP: Violent clashes in Moradabad village over molestation of teenage girls

At least one person was injured after clashes broke out between people of two communities in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad on Wednesday. According to the details, the incident was reported from Mundapande village of the district after some girls were molested by boys belonging to another community.

Hijab controversy: Karnataka HC to continue hearing; petitioners ask 'why target hijab alone?’

The Karnataka High Court will continue hearing today on petitions against a government order banning Hijab in schools and colleges. The matter is before a bench comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice JM Khazi which took up the case last week after a single bench referred the case to Chief Justice citing constitutional questions.
