Navy's fifth Kalvari class submarine 'Vagir' commences sea trials

The fifth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11879, Indian Navy’s Kalvari class commenced her sea trials on Tuesday (February 1). The submarine was launched in November 2020 from the Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). The submarine would be named Vagir, after commissioning.   Despite the COVID pandemic, MDL has ‘Delivered’ two submarines of Project – 75 in the year 2021 and the commencement of sea trials of the fifth submarine is a significant milestone., as per news agency ANI.

Chinese PLA tortured Arunachal youth in its custody: MP Tapir Gao

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) that handed over Arunachal Pradesh youth Miram Taron to the Indian Army on January 27 -- nine days after he was allegedly abducted, had tortured the teenager while he was in its custody, Lok Sabha member Tapir Gao claimed on Wednesday. Gao, who represents the Arunachal East constituency, said that the PLA had tortured Miram, and kept him blindfolded, tied his hands, gave electric shocks, adding the teenager was also subjected to other inhuman treatments.

Omicron variant LIVE Updates: Nagaland reports first case

Omicron variant LIVE Updates: Nagaland on Tuesday reported its first Omicron variant of COVID-19 case, a senior health department official said. Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Neikrielie Khimiao said a total of 152 samples were sent from Nagaland to the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Imphal for whole genome sequencing test. The reports were received on January 31, of which 73 cases were reported positive with 54 Omicron variants and 19 Delta variants. Nagaland Health minister S Pangnyu Phom in a tweet confirmed the detection of 54 cases of Omicron in the state. The minister assured that all possible measures were in place to monitor the situation. He advised the public to continue following all COVID-19 appropriate behaviours and be vaccinated. Meanwhile, the state on Tuesday reported 54 new COVID-19 cases.

Andhra Pradesh: Days after controversy over name, Guntur's Jinnah Tower painted in Tricolour

Days after a controversy arose over the name of Jinnah Tower in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur, it was painted in tricolour and arrangements were made to hoist the national flag near it. Commenting on the development, Guntur East MLA Mohammed Musthafa said a pole would also be constructed to hoist the national flag near the tower.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced Rs 10 lakh aid to the 20-year-old woman who was allegedly gang-raped in Kasturba Nagar and added the government will appoint a lawyer to represent her in a fast-track court. The woman was last week allegedly abducted, gang-raped and paraded by her attackers on the streets of east Delhi's Kasturba Nagar with her hair chopped, face blackened and a shoe garland around her neck.
