SKM to hold meeting at Singhu border to decide future course of farmers’ agitation today

A crucial meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 farm unions, will be held at the Singhu border today (December 4) to discuss the future course of farmers' agitation. This comes days after the Parliament passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill.

Omicron in India Latest News Updates: As India confirmed two cases of Omicron, the World Health Organization on Friday said countries in the South-East Asia Region should further strengthen COVID-19 response measures to curtail the spread of the virus and its variants. Studies are underway to evaluate Omicron's transmissibility, severity, reinfection risk, immune escape potential, clinical presentation, response to other available countermeasures, etc. Preliminary evidence suggests higher transmissibility and potential immune escape that could lead to a surge in cases. Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director of the WHO South-East Asia Region, said as part of enhanced surveillance, countries need to ensure they have early warning systems in place composed of multiple indicators such as rapid increase in cases and test positivity rates.

Cyclone Jawad LIVE UPDATES: Indian Navy ramps up for rescue, relief ops; carries out preparatory activities

With Cyclonic Storm, 'Jawad', likely to hit North Andhra Pradesh today, the Indian Navy on Friday said that it has ramped up rescue and relief operations to minimise damages. As depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal likely to intensify as Cyclonic Storm, 'Jawad' and moving North Westerly direction and is likely to cross the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on Saturday, Indian Navy is closely monitoring the movement of the Cyclonic Storm. "Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command, and Naval Officers-in-Charge at Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Area have carried out preparatory activities to combat the effects of Cyclone 'Jawad' and is in constant liaison with the State Administrations for rendering assistance as required," the Navy said in a release.
