India logs 8,954 COVID cases, over 10,000 recoveries in 24 hours; active cases below 1 lakh

COVID-19 India Live News Updates: India recorded 8,954 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 267 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 10,207 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.35 per cent which is the highest since March 2020 and total recoveries data reached to 3,40,28,506.

Srinagar: COVID test made compulsory for all international passengers, followed by 7-day home quarantine

Amid concerns over the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, RT PCR test of all international passengers arriving at Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar Airport would be conducted, followed by a seven-day home quarantine for those who test negative. In view of the government advisory, the special meeting chaired by Kashmir Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Pandurang K Pole on Tuesday decided to make the on-spot RT PCR test mandatory for all international passengers at Srinagar Airport, irrespective of travellers previous negative report or vaccination status.

Parliament Winter Session LIVE Updates: Lok Sabha likely to discuss new 'Omicron' variant today

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday is likely to discuss the new Omicron variant of Covid along with other legislative Business. Short duration discussion is likely to be held in the Lok Sabha on the new Omicron variant. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will tell the House about the new variant. The discussion on the new Omicron variant will be held under Rule 193. Under this rule, members can seek details about the new Covid variant. On Tuesday, Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha that no case of Omicron variant had been reported in the country as of now. He also briefed the Upper House about the country's preparedness. The government will also try to table 'The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2020', which it failed to do in the first two days of the current session.

Maharashtra: 40 Bangladeshi nationals arrested for illegal stay in Bhiwandi

At least 40 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Mumbai's Bhiwandi area on Tuesday, for residing illegally in India. DCP, Zone 2, Bhiwandi, Yogesh Chavan told reporters that the arrested men were working as laborers at various locations. "They didn't possess any valid documents for staying in India," he said.
