OPINION | Farmers’ agitation: Will it be called off after December 4?

For the first time, there are indications from farmer leaders that their year-long agitation may be called off soon. A group representing 32 farmers’ organisations of Punjab said on Tuesday evening that the government has accepted most of their demands and there could be an agreement over calling off the agitation. At the Delhi-Haryana border point in Kundli on Tuesday, 32 jathas (groups) from Punjab, at a meeting, decided that they would place their proposal before the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, scheduled to meet on December 4, where a final decision will be taken.

Breaking: Petrol price cut by Rs 8 per litre in Delhi, diesel price unchanged

The Delhi government has reduced VAT on petrol to 19.40% from 30%. The prices of petrol in Delhi will reduce by Rs 8 per litre. The new rates will come into effect from midnight today.

Omicron Live News Updates: UP's Meerut starts monitoring people arriving from foreign countries

In the wake of new COVID-19 variant Omicron, the Meerut Health Department has started monitoring the people coming from foreign countries, an official said. Akhilesh Mohan, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Meerut said that a total of 209 people have come from abroad in the last 12 days. The Chief Medical Officer further informed that the reports of 13 people are yet to come and others have been tested negative. "Arrangements have been made in Subharti Medical College and LLRM Medical College for any COVID-19 positive international passenger. Further, the affected passengers will be monitored for seven days and we will continuously remain in touch with COVID-19 Command Centre," Mohan added.  The Omicron variant (B.1.1.529), a new variant of the COVID-19, was first reported in Botswana on November 11, 2021, and appeared on November 14 in South Africa. It has been declared a variant of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).

No data on farmers' death during protests, so no compensation: Govt in Parliament

The government on Tuesday said it has "no record" on the number of farmers who died during the year-long agitation demanding repeal of the three farm laws and hence there was no question of providing financial assistance to anyone.
