India reports 8,865 new COVID cases, 197 deaths; active caseload lowest in 525 days

India reported 8,865 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the lowest in 287 days, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. With this, India's active caseload stands at 1,30,793, which is the lowest in 525 days.

Kerala rains: Yellow alert issued for 8 districts; 105% excess rainfall recorded in November

Heavy rains continue to lash parts of Kerala affecting Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam districts the most resulting in widespread damage to property. On Monday, three people died in rain related incidents, according to a PTI report.

NCR states' CMs, IGs of Punjab & Haryana to hold meet on air pollution today

The Commission for Air Quality Management for Delhi and Surrounding Areas (CAQM) has called a meeting of all Chief Ministers of NCR states and even IGs of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday in connection with the increased severity of air pollution in the region. The Supreme Court on Monday reprimanded the Centre and the states, especially the Delhi government for their failure to reign in air pollution that had reached hazardous levels last week and now hovering on 'severe' and 'very poor' level.

Deep-rooted conspiracies in play to render Sikhs leaderless: Sukhbir Singh Badal

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday cautioned Sikhs against alleged deep-rooted conspiracies to render the community leaderless and called for “identifying and defeating” them. Addressing a gathering from the Manji Sahib Diwan Hall in the Golden Temple complex, the Akali leader cautioned “against conspiracies to make the community dependent totally on non-Sikh centres of power outside Punjab”.

Centre extends ban on Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation for 5 years

The Centre on Monday extended for five years the ban imposed on the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), headed by India-born preacher Zakir Naik, currently based in Malaysia. The IRF was first declared an unlawful organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) by the central government on November 17, 2016.
