With the onset of festival season, COVID numbers rise by 14%; India logs 11,903 fresh cases

India recorded 11,903 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 311 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 14,159 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.21 per cent which is the highest since March 2020 and total recoveries data reached 3,36,97,740.

PM Modi to hold virtual review meeting with districts having low Covid-19 vaccination rate today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conducting a review meeting virtually with districts having low COVID-19 vaccination coverage on Wednesday. As per the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will interact with District Magistrates of over 40 districts in Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, and other states with districts having low vaccination coverage.

October extremely heavy rainfall events' frequency surpasses last five years

Northwest India received 67 mm rainfall in the month of October against the normal of 23 mm, a massive 191.2 per cent departure against long period average (LPA), including 160 instances of very heavy rainfall and 36 of extremely heavy rainfall. Comparing the last five years, the frequency of extremely heavy rainfall has been maximum in 2021 for September and October, India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed.

Earthquake in J&K: Quake of magnitude 3.6 hits Gulmarg

An earthquake of 3.6 magnitude hit Gulmarg in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed that the earthquake occured at a depth of 10 kilometres and 227 kilometres north of Gulmarg.

India calls for hike in climate finance to 1 trillion dollars

The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav called upon the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC) to work closely to protect the interests of developing countries on Tuesday, and urged that climate finance cannot continue at the levels decided in 2009 and should be increased to at least 1 trillion dollars to meet the goals of addressing climate change.
