Plea challenging Rakesh Asthana's appointment as Delhi Police Commissioner dismissed

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL challenging the appointment of Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as city police commissioner. The order was pronounced by a bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh on a petition by lawyer Sadre Alam. The petitioner had prayed for quashing of the July 27 order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs appointing Asthana as the Delhi Police Commissioner, and also the order granting inter-cadre deputation and extension of service to him.

Supply as much power as available to Delhi: Power ministry directs NTPC, DVC amid coal shortage reports

Amid reports of a possible power disruption in the national capital due to coal shortage, the Ministry of Power has directed the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and DVC to supply as much power as available to Delhi DISCOMs keeping in view their declared capacity. "This will ensure that distribution companies of Delhi will get as much power as requisitioned by them as per their demand," a press release by the Central Government said.

Delhi: Pakistani terrorist arrested from Laxmi Nagar area; AK-47, hand grenade seized

India reports 14,313 new COVID cases, 181 deaths; active cases decline to 2,14,900

India has reported a total of 14,313 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed on Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, 181 deaths were recorded in the country due to which the death toll mounted to 4,50,963. With this, the active COVID-19 cases in India have now declined to 2,14,900.

Posters and hoardings have surfaced against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s planned visit to Uttar Pradesh's violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri today. The posters have been put up by Sikh community people, targeting the Congress leader over 'fake sympathy for the farmers who were killed in the violence on October 3. NIA raids various locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi

The NIA (National Investigation Agency) on Tuesday conducted raids at 16 locations across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the details, the raids were conducted at locations in Shopian, Pulwama and Srinagar, in connection with a new case linked to the Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of various Tanzeems including The Resistance Front (TRF).
