Taxes on petrol fund free COVID vaccines: Union Minister justifies fuel price hike

Drawing a comparison between the consistent rise in fuel rates and packaged mineral water, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli on Saturday said the price of such water is more. Taxes on petroleum products funded free COVID-19 vaccines provided by the government to people, the minister further said. Interacting with reporters, Teli further said the price of petrol is not high but taxes are imposed and this is also a means of raising resources.

Punjab reels under grim power situation; PSPCL chief says 'less than two days of coal stock left'

With the power situation continuing to remain grim in Punjab, the state-owned power utility PSPCL on Monday procured 1,500 MW of electricity at a rate of over Rs 14 per unit. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chairman and managing director A Venu Prasad said the critical coal stock position in the state is still prevailing as only 12 rakes of coal were received on Sunday as against the daily requirement of 22 rakes.
