Postpone NEET, let students have a fair chance: Rahul Gandhi to govt

Close contacts of child who died of Nipah test negative for virus

Kerala heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday as the test results of those who came in close contact with the 12-year-old child who succumbed to Nipah virus infection returned negative. State Health Minister Veena George said the test results of the samples taken from the child's eight close contacts are negative.

Proposal to change names of Kasganj, Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh

The zila panchayat board in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj has passed a resolution saying the name of Kasganj should be changed to Kalyan Singh Nagar, in memory of the former chief minister who died on August 21. Kasganj Zila panchayat president Ratnesh Kashyap said the proposal has been unanimously passed during a board meeting last week and would now be sent to the state government for final approval.

Bhabanipur assembly bypoll: Congress to field candidate against Mamata Banerjee

Changing its earlier stance, the West Bengal Congress on Monday announced it has decided to field a candidate against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the September 30 by-poll in the Bhabanipur assembly seat and the name of the party nominee will be sent to AICC for consent. The decision made at a Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) meeting to contest the by-election came at a time when the party and the Mamata Banerjee-headed Trinamool Congress are maintaining a bonhomie at the national level since July.

Heavy rain alert in Thane, Palghar; citizens advised to avoid travel, not to cross bridges

The Thane and neighbouring Palghar administrations have asked citizens to remain alert in the wake of heavy rainfall prediction by the Regional Meteorological Centre for the Konkan region over the next three days. The collectors of the two Maharashtra districts, in separate orders issued on Monday night, appealed to people not to venture into rivers, lakes and other water bodies in the next few days and also avoid travelling, unless absolutely necessary.

India logs 31,222 fresh Covid cases, 290 deaths in last 24 hours, active cases further drop to 3,92,864

India recorded 31,222 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 290 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday, the country saw a total of 42,942 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 97.42 per cent and total recoveries to 3,22,24,937.
