With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections drawing close, All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi will begin a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh from Ayodhya, starting today.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday called for the postponement of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG examination. The former Congress chief also urged the government to let the students "have a fair chance" in the exams. Kerala heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday as the test results of those who came in close contact with the 12-year-old child who succumbed to Nipah virus infection returned negative. State Health Minister Veena George said the test results of the samples taken from the child's eight close contacts are negative.
The zila panchayat board in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj has passed a resolution saying the name of Kasganj should be changed to Kalyan Singh Nagar, in memory of the former chief minister who died on August 21. Kasganj Zila panchayat president Ratnesh Kashyap said the proposal has been unanimously passed during a board meeting last week and would now be sent to the state government for final approval.
Changing its earlier stance, the West Bengal Congress on Monday announced it has decided to field a candidate against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the September 30 by-poll in the Bhabanipur assembly seat and the name of the party nominee will be sent to AICC for consent.
