Allahabad HC asks UP govt to reply to Kafeel Khan's petition

The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government counsel to seek instructions from the state government on a writ petition filed by Dr Kafeel Ahmad Khan, challenging his suspension from BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. Dr Kafeel Khan, a paediatrician, was suspended from service on August 22, 2017, from BRD Medical College following the death of about 60 infants in the hospital due to lack of oxygen.

At 30,549, India's daily COVID case rise falls by 24 per cent; 422 deaths reported

India recorded 30,549 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 422 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday, the country saw a total of 38,887 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 3,08,96,354. The active cases of COVID-19 in India are now at 4,04,958, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 4,25,195.

Bodies of 2 sisters found hanging in Navi Mumbai flat

The bodies of two sisters were found hanging in a decomposed condition in their flat in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra, a police official said. The incident came to light on Monday when neighbours of the deceased - Laxmi Panthari (33) and her sister Sneha Panthari (26) - complained of foul smell emanating from their flat in a housing society in Airoli's Sector 10 and contacted the police, he said.

J&K: Encounter underway in Bandipora, one unidentified terrorist killed

An encounter broke out between security forces and militants killing one unidentified terrorist, in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Chandaji area of Bandipora in north Kashmir after inputs were received about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
