The Centre on Monday said it has set a record in wheat procurement at 433.24 lakh tonne so far in the ongoing 2021-22 rabi marketing season. In paddy procurement too, the government has procured a record 862.01 lakh tonne till July 4 of the 2020-21 kharif marketing season (October-September).

Heatwave claims over 17,000 lives in 50 years in India: Study
Heatwaves have claimed more than 17,000 lives in 50 years in India, according to a paper recently published by the country's top meteorologists. The paper said there were 706 heatwave incidents in the country from 1971-2019. The research paper was authored by M Rajeevan, Secretary of Ministry of Earth Science, along with scientists Kamaljit Ray, S S Ray, R K Giri and A P Dimri, earlier this year. Kamaljit Ray is the lead author of the paper.

TMC to hold protest in West Bengal on weekend over skyrocketing petrol, diesel prices
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) will stage a sit-in protest across West Bengal rising fuel prices in the country on July 10 and 11, following all COVID protocols, informed TMC leader Partha Chatterjee on Monday. "Sit-in protests will be staged against hike in fuel prices in every block and town of West Bengal on July 10 and July 11, following all COVID protocols," said Chatterjee.

Himachal Pradesh has started witnessing an inflow of tourists following relaxation in COVID restrictions by the state government. In less than a month starting from June, there has been traffic of around 6-7 lakh tourists in the Himalayan state. As the number of new COVID cases started declining in the country, tourists have started thronging to the destinations like Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Narkanda and other parts of the state.

COVID 19: People throng Noida hospital to get vaccines, flout norms
People thronged at a hospital in NOIDA flouting the pandemic norms to take their COVID-19 vaccines on Monday. The incident was reported at Government District Hospital, Sector 30, Noida where a large number of people gathered to get their COVID-19 vaccine doses. People were seen not maintaining the social distancing. The hospital administration said that many people could not get vaccinated in the last two days as there was less stock of vaccines. Now after, the sufficient doses provided to the hospital, people gathered to get their jab.
