Delhi records 26 degrees Celsius minimum temperature, light rains expected in evening

The national capital is expected to receive light rains or drizzle by Monday evening, the Indian Meteorological Department has said. The minimum temperature settled at 26 degrees Celsius, two points below the season average, it said.

Climate change increases extreme rainfall, chance of floods: Experts

Climate experts at the Newcastle University warn that, without urgent action, climate change will continue to cause an increase in the intensity of extreme rainfall that can lead to severe flooding. An international research team has concluded that increases in extreme rainfall and associated flooding are projected to continue as global temperatures continue to rise. Efforts to limit warming to +1.5C will help limit changes in extreme rainfall, though some societal adaptations will still be required.

Delhi: AIIMS to start screening children for Covaxin trials from today

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi will begin screening of children aged 2 to 18 years for Covaxin clinical trials from today. Covaxin is indigenously developed anti-Covid vaccine. It is developed by Hyderabad-based biotechnology company Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim tests positive for COVID-19

Controversial Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence in Haryana for raping two of his disciples, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, jail authorities said. India logs 1,00,636 new COVID cases, over 1.74 lakh recoveries in past 24 hours

India on Monday recorded 1,00,636 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 2,427 deaths due to the infection. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 1,74,399 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,71,59,180. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 2,89,09,975, with 14,01,609 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 3,49,186. A total of 23,27,86,482 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.
