21 UP convicts refuse parole, feel 'safer' in jail

Nearly 21 convicts in different jails in Uttar Pradesh have refused to take parole because they feel 'safer' inside the prison. UP DG Jails, Anand Kumar told reporters that 21 convicts in nine prisons of the state have refused parole, citing Covid scare in their districts and said that they were being treated better in the jails of the state.

India logs 1,65,553 new COVID cases, 2.76 lakh recoveries in past 24 hours

India on Sunday recorded 1,65,553 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 3,460 deaths due to the infection. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 2,76,309 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,54,54,320. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 2,78,94,800, with 21,14,508 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 3,25,972. A total of 21,20,66,614 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

Kerala extends COVID-19 lockdown till June 9, with some relaxations

Kerala Government on Sunday extended the lockdown restrictions till June 9 in all its districts. "Special intensified stringent restrictions enforced in the district of Malappuram will cease to exist from 00:00 of May 30.
