SAJA advises news organisations against using 'India variant' term for new COVID-19 strain

The South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) is advising news organisations against using the term 'India variant' or 'Indian variant', while describing the new strain of COVID-19 that reportedly originated out of India. In a statement, the association said that its guidance is in keeping with best practices issued in 2015 by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which warns that the naming of diseases, viruses or variants after the countries from which they originate could stigmatise the people living there.

Over 30 ambulances found parked at plot in Bihar's Saran; JAP raises questions

At a time when ambulance operators are breaching the regulatory protocols in place to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in Bihar, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, the president of Jan Adhikar Party (JAP), on Friday raised questions over 30 ambulances found at a plot in Amnaur block in Saran district of the state. The ambulances were reportedly purchased under the MP fund in 2019 and were kept at the plot belonging to the relatives of BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy. The name of Rudy is also mentioned on every ambulance.

105 oxygen concentrators seized from Khan Market restaurants in Delhi; owner on run

Delhi Police busted oxygen concentrators black-marketing racket and recovered 105 concentrators from two upscale restaurants in the Khan Market area on Friday. The two restaurants namely Khan Chacha and Town Hall are owned by Navneet Kalra, who is on run, said police, adding that the manager and three staffers have been arrested.
