Don't want to demoralise High Courts, they are vital pillars of democracy: SC raps Election Commission

The Supreme Court on Monday rapped the Election Commission of India over its plea against Madras High Court's observations over the conduct of Assembly elections. The top court said that High Courts are vital pillars of democracy and that it will not demoralise the courts.

UP: Woman dies on road after ambulance helpline service fails to respond

A 55-year-old woman, suffering from chronic renal disease, collapsed on the road and her body remained lying on the footpath for hours as the ambulance helpline service failed to respond to her husband's repeated calls. The couple, marginal farmers, hailing from Kasimpur village, had travelled to Pilibhit city, after the woman, Laungshree complained of unbearable pain on Friday.

India reports 3,68,147 new COVID cases, 3,417 deaths in 24 hours

India on Monday recorded 3,68,147 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 3,417 deaths due to the infection. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total 3,00,732 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery toll to 16,29,3003. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 1,99,25,604, with 34,13,642 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 2,18,959. A total of 15,71,98,207 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

Delhi: Vaccination for 18+ category to begin today, 77 schools identified for inoculation exercise

The third and the largest phase of vaccination will begin in Delhi on Monday. People in the 18-45 age group will be given jabs against coronavirus. Around 90 lakh people in this category will be eligible for the jabs.

COVID-19: Delhi hospitals cry for help amid oxygen shortage

Battling an acute shortage of oxygen, some hospitals in Delhi on Sunday sent out desperate SOS calls to authorities to replenish their dwindling stocks, with one healthcare facility even requesting the government to shift out its patients. Madhukar Rainbow Children's Hospital in Malviya Nagar on Sunday sounded an alarm about their depleting stocks around noon, saying 50 people, including four newborns, were "at risk".
