India records highest single-day rise of 2,95,041 COVID-19 cases, 2,023 deaths

In a new peak, India on Wednesday recorded 2,95,041 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 2,023 deaths. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 1,67,457 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery toll to 1,32,76,039. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 1,56,16,130, with 21,57,538 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 1,82,553. A  total of 13,01,19,310 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

Puducherry to impose lockdown till April 26 amid surge in Covid-19 cases

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Union Territory of Puducherry on Wednesday decided to impose lockdown till April 26. The Union Territory yesterday also imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am.

COVID-19 surge: Several private, govt hospitals in Delhi receive fresh supply of medical oxygen

Some major government and private hospitals in Delhi received a fresh stock of medical oxygen in the early hours of Wednesday, averting a crisis just in time, according to officials. Gangaram Hospital received 5,000 cubic meters of oxygen supply from a private vendor before 3 am. This stock should last till Wednesday afternoon. The supply from another oxygen firm is still awaited, sources said.

COVID-19: Section 144 imposed across Maharashtra, decision on complete lockdown today

Amid soaring Covid-19 cases, the Maharashtra government has imposed Section 144 imposed across the state. Besides, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is mulling imposing a strict lockdown in the entire state to deal with the situation. According to NCP leader and state minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will announce a decision about lockdown on Wednesday.

Delhi: Labs halt services over delay in giving out test results amid COVID-19 spike

A rapid rise in COVID-19 cases and exceeding requests for either RT-PCR or antigen tests has abruptly forced a majority of private laboratories to stop collecting swab samples even from testing centres for at least two days. As per a government bulletin on Tuesday evening, in the last 24 hours, Delhi conducted 86,526 tests. Despite having sufficient infrastructure and equipped with machines and testing kits, many labs are closing themselves for three to four days citing overburden and shortage in manpower.
