A coronavirus-positive woman delivered healthy twins at a government hospital here on Monday, officials said. "Both the babies are COVID-19 negative and have been kept separate from the mother," said Dr. Arun Sharma, the medical superintendent of Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Gandhinagar here. The mother and babies are fine and healthy, he said.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has temporarily closed the entry gates at several metro stations in the national capital to deal with overcrowding. The metro stations where no passengers will be allowed to enter the premises are Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk. The entry gates at MG Road station which falls on the Yellow Line in Gurugram have also been closed.
Amid the spike in the COVID-19 deaths in Delhi, some people were forced to perform the last rites of their relatives at the parking of cremation ground in Ghazipur in the national capital. The cremation ground is receiving almost 50-60 bodies daily, including the bodies of non-COVID patients. People are claiming that they have to return back multiple times as they are not getting space in the cremation ground.
United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had advised its citizens to avoid travelling to India amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. In a statement, the CDC said: "Because of the current situation in India even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India. If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travellers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands."
The Indore district administration has decided not to give permission for weddings till April 30 amid the unprecedented increase of COVID-19 cases. "No permission will be given for weddings as there's a higher risk of COVID-19 transmission. People are requested to postpone their weddings and stay home till April 30," said Indore District Magistrate Manish Singh.
Any cooperative housing society (CHS) having more than five COVID-19 cases, who are present in the society/building, will be declared as a micro containment zone (MCZ), the Maharashtra government has said. The state government declared the standard operating procedure (SOP) for MCZs in an order issued on Sunday under the break the chain initiative, launched to stem the rise of COVID-19 cases, which have seen a spurt in the recent weeks.
With the government opening the COVID-19 vaccination drive to everyone above 18 years of age, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting with vaccine manufacturers on Tuesday, sources said.
