West Bengal on Monday registered 4,511 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic started last year, pushing the state's tally to 6,19,407, the state health department said in a bulletin. Kolkata also set a record of 1,115 new cases.

Amid an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday that the city government has written to the Centre to again scale up COVID beds in its hospitals in Delhi. Interacting with reporters, he also appealed to people to step out of their homes only if necessary and wear masks all the time.

Maharashtra: Mattress-making factory used discarded face masks instead of cotton; probe on
A mattress-making factory in Maharashtra was busted for using discarded masks to stuff products. According to a report with NDTV, the incident was reported from the Jalgaon district of the state, where the factory used discarded masks instead of cotton, to stuff mattresses. A case has been filed against the owner of the unit, following which a probe has been launched. The cops have also recovered piles of masks from the premises of the factory, the report said.

Karnataka RTC workers strike enters 6th day, bus services continue to be hit
Bus services were hampered for the sixth consecutive day in Karnataka, as the strike by the employees of the road transport corporations on wage related issues continued on Monday. With a stalemate between the government and employees of the four transport corporations in the state, over their demand for wages as per the 6th Pay Commission continuing, majority of the workers did not turn up for work, resulting in buses remaining off road, affecting commuters.

Odisha cinema halls sealed for flouting COVID-19 norms
The police sealed two cinema halls in Paralakhemundi in Odisha's Gajapati district for violating COVID guidelines and two others for not renewing the licence, in the last two days, said Achyutananda Jani, Additional Tahasildar and Executive Magistrate Paralakhemundi. Commenting on the development, Jani said, "The Jai Maa and Laxmi cinema halls have been sealed until further orders by the administration. The enforcement team found a huge crowd thronged the cinema halls violating the social distancing rules. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the huge crowd which had thronged the cinema hall to watch a Telugu movie."

New Covid cases cross 10,000-mark in Karnataka
A record 10,250 new Covid cases were registered in a day across Karnataka, with its state capital Bengaluru accounting for 7,584 cases, said the state health bulletin on Sunday. "With 10,250 testing positive on Saturday, the state's Covid tally shot up to 10,65,290, including 69,225 active cases, while 9,83,157 recovered so far, with 2,638 discharged during the day," said the bulletin.
