Curfew clamped after communal clashes break out in Rajasthan's Baran; internet suspended

Curfew was clamped and internet services suspended in Chhabra town of Rajasthan's Baran district on Sunday as communal clashes broke out, leaving several shops and vehicles set on fire, while other shops were looted, police said. Senior officials, including the Inspector General of Police, the District Collector, and the Superintendent of Police, were holding a high-level meeting.

UP records over 15,000 new COVID-19 cases; night curfew imposed in Mathura

In the highest single-day spike, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday reported as many as 15,353 new COVID-19 cases, the state health department informed. The total number of positive active cases in the state now stands at 71,241, while total recoveries stand at 6,11,622. As many as 85,15,296 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far.

Farmers ready to talk if govt invites, no change in demands: Rakesh Tikait

Farmers protesting the contentious new farm laws are ready to talk if the Centre invites them, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said on Sunday, maintaining that the dialogue would resume where it had ended on January 22 and the demands remain unchanged. He said for the talks to resume, the government should invite the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body representing the protestors who are camping at the three border points of Delhi at Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur since November 2020.
