Covid: Gujarat crosses 5,000 daily cases for first time

Continuing the recent trend of the surge in cases, Gujarat on Saturday recorded its highest single-day tally of Covid-19 infections so far at 5,011, taking its overall tally to 3,42,026, while 49 deaths in the past 24 hours mounted the state's Covid death toll 4,746.

India records 1,52,879 new COVID cases, 839 deaths in 24 hours; biggest single-day spike so far

India reported as many as 152,879 new Covid-19 cases and 839 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Saturday. With 11,08,087 active cases, India is the fourth-worst Covid-hit country worldwide. With this, the total tally stands at 13,358,805. The death toll stood at 169275 the Health Ministry said.

'Tika Utsav' from today; maximum eligible people to be vaccinated against COVID-19

A 'Tika Utsav' or vaccine festival will be marked in the country from today till April 14 at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to inoculate a maximum number of eligible people against the coronavirus amid a surge in cases. Several states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are gearing up with appeals being made to eligible people to get themselves vaccinated during the duration of the 'Tika Utsav'.

J&K: 3 terrorists killed during encounter with security forces in Shopian

Three terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir early on Sunday. According to the details, the encounter was reported from Shopian, where one soldier was also injured. Commenting on the gunfight, Kashmir Zone Police said the cops and security forces made sincere efforts for the surrender of newly recruited terrorist. However, the other terrorists did not allow him to surrender.

CM Adityanath issues fresh orders as UP records 12,787 new COVID-19 cases, 48 more fatalities

Uttar Pradesh has recorded 12,787 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the state's infection tally to 6,76,739. As many as 48 more deaths were reported from the state, according to a government statement. The total death toll in the state is now at 9,085, the statement said. Taking cognizance of the rising cases in the state capital, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Lucknow police commissioner to ensure that not more than five persons are allowed to enter the religious places.
