‘Disrupts sleep, creates disturbance’: Allahabad University VC seeks ban on use of loudspeakers for Azaan
Sangeeta Srivastava, the Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad Central University, Prayagraj, has written a letter to the District Magistrate urging a ban on the use of loudspeakers for Azaan in the morning. Sangeeta said that her sleep is disrupted due to loud Azaan and it only adds to noise pollution. Sangeeta lives in the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj.

THESE 5 states account for over 70 per cent of daily COVID-19 infections
Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu continue to report a high number of daily COVID-19 cases, accounting for 71.10 per cent of the 28,903 new infections, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. It said 83.91 per cent of the new cases are from Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Maharashtra alone accounts for 61.8 per cent of the daily new cases with 17,864 cases. It is followed by Kerala with 1,970 while Punjab reported 1,463 new cases, the ministry said.

The UP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has embarked upon a gigantic task of demolishing more than 40,000 religious shrines like temples, mosques and mazaars (tombs) built illegally on government land. This follows an order from the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court dated June 3, 2016, in which the state government was asked to remove or shift these illegal shrines that were built by encroaching on public property after January 1, 2011.
