No invitation from BHU: Reliance Industries spokesperson on Nita Ambani visiting varsity

Amid reports of Reliance Industries executive director Nita Ambani visiting the Banaras Hindu University, a spokesperson of the company has confirmed Ambani has not received any invitation from the university. "Reports that Nita Ambani will be a visiting lecturer at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) are fake. She hasn't received an invitation from BHU," news agency ANI quoted a spokesperson of Reliance Industries Limited as saying.

With 28,903 new COVID cases, India records highest single-day spike this year

India recorded 28,903 new coronavirus infections, the highest so far this year, taking the COVID-19 tally to 1,14,38,734, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll increased to 1,59,044 with 188 new fatalities, the highest in around two months, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Night curfew, lockdown in UP? Here's what state govt says

Despite a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government has ruled out any night curfew and lockdown in any part of the state. UP Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh said that the government machinery is concentrating more on the preventive steps like focus and contact/target testing to arrest the cases before it takes an alarming proposition. He said that the Integrated Control and Command Centre of the Health department has been put on high alert to monitor the situation.

Ram Swaroop Sharma, BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, found dead inside his Delhi residence

Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mandi, Ram Swaroop Sharma died allegedly by suicide in Delhi, news agency ANI reported. Police said that a call was received from a staffer following which a team was deployed to his residence.

Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistani intruder shot dead by BSF in Samba district

An intruder from Pakistan was shot dead by the Border Security Force on the international border in the Ramgarh area of Jammu's Samba district. According to top sources in BSF, the incident took place on Tuesday at about 3:55 pm and the intruder was found moving aggressively towards wild growth (sarkanda) while approaching the border fence from the direction of Pakistan's village Lehri Kalan.

Agra: 5 killed as septic tank caves in; CM Adityanath announces ex-gratia

At least five people, including four of a single family were killed when a septic tank they were digging caved in. The incident was reported Tuesday evening from Pratap Pura village of Agra district in Uttar Pradesh. Commenting on the incident, District Magistrate of Agra, Prabhu N Singh, said, "The five deceased were involved in the digging of a septic tank when mud collapsed into the pit that had been dug. One person died on the spot while four others were rushed to SN Medical College where they were declared dead on arrival."
