Pune: Schools shut, only 50 people allowed at weddings as Covid cases surge again

With COVID-19 cases showing an upward trend once again, the Pune administration on Friday decided to impose certain restrictions to prevent the situation from going out of control. Night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am is already in place in Pune.

CBI summons TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's brother-in-law in illegal coal-mining case

The CBI has summoned the brother-in-law of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on March 15 in connection with an illegal coal-mining case, officials said on Friday. Ankush Arora, the husband of Banerjee's sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir, and his father Pawan Arora have been asked to appear before the investigating officer in the case on March 15, they said.

Farmers suspend protest on rail tracks near Amritsar after 169 days

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) has suspended its protest against the three farm laws. The protesters were sitting on rail tracks for the last 169 days, thus blocking passenger and goods trains movement. They were blocking Amritsar-Delhi track near Jandiala Guru in Amritsar.

What a coincidence it is! Last week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke his mind about his one-time close aide Jyotiraditya Scindia quitting the party and becoming a 'backbencher' in the BJP. He was addressing the Youth Wing of the Congress in Delhi. Rahul said that Scindia would have become a Chief Minister if he had stayed with the Congress. The statement, however, didn't impress Scindia, who snapped back saying it would have been a different story if Rahul had been concerned the same way when he was with the party.

Madan Kaushik appointed new Uttarakhand BJP chief, replaces Banshidhar Bhagat

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Madan Kaushik has been appointed as the new chief of the party's Uttarakhand unit. He replaces Banshidhar Bhagat who was heading the party in the hilly state since January 2020. Sources told India TV that Banshidhar Bhagat could join Tirath Singh Rawat's Cabinet.

Rafales' second squadron at Hasimara to counter threats from China

The Indian Air Force plans to raise its second squadron of Rafale fighter jets at Hasimara Air Force base in West Bengal by next month to counter threats from China. Hasimara is a strategic base for IAF operations because of its proximity to Bhutan, the Chumbi Valley where lies a tri-junction between India, Bhutan, and China, and Doklam where a standoff took place in 2017. The tri-junction has been a matter of concern for all three countries.
