PM Modi to visit Bangladesh this month, his first foreign trip in more than a year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Dhaka later in March this year. Ahead of the prime minister's visit, Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam on Tuesday said Dhaka looked forward to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit this month to take forward the relations with some deliverables.

Mumbai Police to now fine at least 1,000 maskless people a day as Commissioner sets target

In a bid to intensify the crackdown on people not wearing masks, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has asked the city police force to collect fines from at least 1,000 such violators per day in each zone, an official said on Wednesday. Mumbai is divided into 12 police zones and the city police are authorised to collect a fine of Rs 200 from people not wearing masks, as mandated under COVID-19 norms. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the metropolis, Singh has asked the city police force to take strict action against those not wearing masks in public places, the official said.

Flights from Ayodhya's international airport to start early next year

The Yogi Adityanath government has said that the proposed airport in Ayodhya will become functional early next year. According to the government spokesman, the state government has released over Rs 321 crore for the land acquisition for the project.

India records 14,989 new COVID cases, 98 fatalities in past 24 hours

India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,11,39,516 with 14,989 new infections, while the active cases were recorded above 1.7 lakh after a month,  according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll increased to 1,57,346 with 98 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. The COVID-19 active caseload has increased to 1,70,126    which comprises 1.53 per cent of the total infections, the data stated.

Karnataka Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi caught in sex scandal; denies claim, terms CD fake

In fresh trouble for the BS Yediyurappa government in Karnataka, Major and Medium Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi has allegedly been caught up in a sex scandal. A CD, showing the minister in a compromising position with a woman, was released to news channels on Tuesday. This comes just ahead of the month-long Budget session in Karnataka and at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to face elections in five states/UTs. The CD was released by social activist Dinesh Kallahalli after he filed a complaint with Bengaluru City police commissioner Kamal Pant.
