PM taking jab would instill confidence, eliminate any hesitancy among people on vaccine: Randeep Guleria

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move to take the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on the very first day of India opening up the inoculation drive for senior citizens and those aged 45 and above with comorbidities should eliminate any hesitancy from the minds of people about the vaccine, AIIMS chief Dr. Randeep Guleria said on Monday. Modi received the indigenously developed Covaxin jab by Bharat Biotech on Monday morning.

Need to encourage agri startups, take agrarian sector to global market for processed food through PPP mode: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that it is time to expand the agriculture sector to a global market for processed food through public-private partnership mode. Addressing a webinar on budget provisions for the farm sector,  he stressed on the need to bring a food processing revolution. He said that the country needs post-harvest revolution or food processing revolution, and value addition in 21st century.

Revised fare for auto-rickshaws, taxis come into force in Mumbai

The new fares for CNG-run auto-rickshaws and taxis, envisaging an increase of Rs 3 each in minimum rates, came into force in Mumbai on Monday, officials said. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has around 60,000 taxis and 4.6 lakh auto-rickshaws, including some petrol-run vehicles. The minimum fare for a distance of 1.5 km for taxis has increased from Rs 22 to Rs 25, while for the auto-rickshaws it has gone up from Rs 18 to Rs 21, RTO officials said.

Chandrababu Naidu detained at Tirupati airport while on his way to attend election campaigning

Dramatic scenes played out at the Renigunta airport near Tirupati on Monday when police blocked Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu from proceeding to carry out his programs. Naidu was seen arguing with senior police officers and even staging a sit-in for not been allowed to proceed further. A senior police officer sat beside Naidu and pleaded with folded hands to convince the former chief minister to refrain from his plans.

While a section of the population has been expressing reservations regarding the efficacy of the vaccine, the Prime Minister was seen calmly talking to the nurses while he received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

With 15,510 new COVID cases, India's tally crosses 1.11 crore; death toll at 1,57,157

India's COVID-19 tally surpassed 1.11 crore on Monday with 15,510 new infections, while the active cases registered an increase for the fifth consecutive day and were recorded at 1,68,627, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total coronavirus cases reached 1,11,12,241 in the country, while the death toll rose to 1,57,157 with 106 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am on Monday showed.
