No prestige issue, Rahul Gandhi should offer solution, if he has: Nitin Gadkari on farmers protest

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday came down heavily on the Congress and other opposition parties for spreading lies over the new farm laws that are at the heart of farmers' protest. Speaking on India TV's special show Budget Sammelan 2021, Gadkari said that the Modi government is committed to help the farmers and that all issues can be resolved through talks.

Parliament LIVE: Opposition parties walk out of Rajya Sabha demanding discussion on farm agitation

Opposition parties including the Congress, Left, TMC and DMK on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha after their demand for suspension of business of the day to take up a discussion on more than two-month-old farmers' agitation was rejected by the Chairman. The opposition parties had given notice under rule 267 calling for the suspension of business of the day to take up discussion on the ongoing agitation by farmers on Delhi borders against three new farm laws. Earlier, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu had to adjourn the proceedings of the House till 10:30 am amid protest by opposition members on new farm laws. Opposition parties questioned the government over the budget as well as the farmers’ protest, leading to the adjournment. Several opposition members raised slogans against the laws and demanded discussion on the farmers' protest while the Upper House of Parliament was taking up the Question Hour. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting at Delhi's borders for over two months demanding rollback of the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Dense fog shrouds Delhi, several trains delayed

Delhi woke up to a thick layer of fog on Tuesday, which led to reduced visibility hindering the movement of traffic. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celcius and a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celcius is on the forecast in the national capital. Dense to very dense fog was observed in isolated in pockets over Punjab, northwest Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh the IMD said. Moderate fog was observed in isolated pockets over Bihar, Assam and Tripura.

10 senior IAS officers transferred in Uttar Pradesh

The Yogi Adityanath government has transferred ten senior IAS officers. The late-night administrative reshuffle on Monday included the transfer of an additional chief secretary, Power Department, Arvind Kumar. India reports 8,635 new COVID cases, 94 fatalities; active cases at 1,63,353

With 8,635 fresh cases, India's COVID-19 tally has gone up to 1,07,66,245, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 1,04,48,406, pushing the national recovery rate to 97.05 per cent, the health ministry said on Tuesday. The death toll due to the viral disease in the country has climbed to 1,54,486 with 94 more fatalities, the ministry's data updated at 8 am showed. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 1,04,48,406 pushing the national COVID-19 recovery rate to 97.05 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.43 per cent.
