Bird flu spreads across 15 Rajasthan districts; Jaipur zoo shut

Bird flu has spread its tentacles to 15 of the 33 districts in Rajasthan, with over 3,000 birds found dead in the state to date, officials said on Tuesday. Jaipur zoo has been closed following the death of four birds.

Delhi's minimum temperature dips to 4.3 degrees Celsius

Delhi's minimum temperature dropped to 4.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and is likely to dip further in the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for the city, recorded a minimum of 4.3 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, an IMD official said.

Frost bites Valley, Drass freezes rock solid at minus 28.5

Morning fog affected pedestrian and vehicular movement in J&K on Tuesday as the gap between the maximum and the minimum temperatures narrowed down in Valley and Ladakh. Union minister Shripad Naik undergoes surgeries for fractures on hands, leg after accident

Union minister Shripad Naik, who was injured in a road accident in Karnataka, underwent multiple surgeries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) near here during the night, a senior official from the hospital said on Tuesday. The health condition of the minister is stable, the official said.

Bird flu scare in Jharkhand after several crows, mynas, herons found dead

A large number of crows, mynas and herons were found dead at a village in Jharkhand's Dumka district, triggering panic over the possibility of the bird flu outbreak in the area, officials said on Tuesday. District Animal Husbandry Officer Awadhesh Kumar Singh said 40-50 birds were found dead at the Pokharia village near Mohulpahari in the Shikaripada police station area on Monday. The incident triggered panic among the locals as they feared the possibility of the bird flu outbreak in the area, he said.

Heavy rains lash parts of Tamil Nadu, likely to continue till Jan 14

Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains will continue to lash the state till January 14. "Very heavy rainfall has been reported at Atiramapattinam (13.5cm) of Tamil Nadu, Ariyalur (10 cm), Nagapattinam (8 cm) and Karaikal (6.3 cm) during 0830 hours IST of January 11 to 0530 hrs IST of January 12," the IMD tweeted.
