A Chinese soldier, who was apprehended by the Indian Army in eastern Ladakh three days ago, was handed back to China on Monday, official sources said. The soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was apprehended at the southern bank of Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh on Friday morning after he transgressed across the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

People shouldn't hesitate to get vaccinated, listen to scientists: Delhi's 1st COVID patient
Days ahead of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, the city's first coronavirus patient urged people on Monday to get immunised without hesitation and listen to the scientific community, and not get swayed in by naysayers or those "spreading misconception" about it. The massive drive, whose first phase will begin from January 16 with healthcare workers to be the top priority group to receive the dose, will comprise 89 vaccination centres in Delhi.

63.93 pc decline in terrorist activities across J&K in 2020: MHA
The number of terrorist incidents in 2020, up to November 15, decreased by 63.93 per cent as compared to the corresponding period in 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Ministry informed that there was also a decrease in fatalities of Special Forces Personnel by 29.11 per cent and a decrease in casualties of civilians by 14.28 per cent in 2020 (up to November 15, 2020) as compared to the corresponding period in 2019.

Delhi's minimum temperature dips to 7 deg C; further drop likely
Delhi's minimum temperature was recorded at seven degrees Celsius on Monday and is likely to drop further as cold winds from the snow-clad western Himalayas continued to sweep the plains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The mercury is likely to drop to five to six degrees Celsius by January 14, an IMD official said.

Farmers' protest: Delhi borders continue to remain closed, traffic diverted
The Delhi Police on Monday informed that Chilla and Ghazipur borders are closed for traffic coming from Noida and Ghaziabad to the national capital due to ongoing farmer protests. People have been advised to take alternate routes via Anand Vihar, Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway, Bhopra and Loni borders.

Uttarakhand: Over 30 birds found dead in Rishikesh
Over 30 birds have been found dead at different places in and around Rishikesh creating a bird flu scare in the town. Twenty-eight crows and one pigeon were found dead in AIIMS, Rishikesh premises, one death was reported from Bees Bigha locality and two from Raiwala station, government veterinary officer Rajesh Raturi said.

UP conducts final dry run for COVID-19 vaccination at 1,500 centres
Gearing up for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in the country, Uttar Pradesh today conducted the third dry run of vaccination at 1,500 centres across the state. As per an official statement from the Uttar government, this was the final mock drill to test all preparations for the vaccination drive. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has praised the contact tracing done by the Uttar Pradesh government to control the spread of COVID-19 infection. "With the efforts made by the state government, the Coronavirus cases in the state are reducing," it said.
