Karnataka cabinet expansion likely on January 13: CM Yediyurappa after meeting top BJP leaders

The much-awaited cabinet expansion in Karnataka is likely to take place on January 13, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Sunday after he met top BJP leaders including its chief J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

BJP chief JP Nadda on two-day Assam visit; to address rally today

BJP president JP Nadda will be on a two-day tour of poll-bound Assam from Monday during which he will address a rally in Silchar and attend a number of other party programmes. The party said he will address the rally on Monday. He is also scheduled to attend a meeting with state party leadership, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Supreme Court to hear pleas on farm laws, ongoing farmers' agitation today

The Supreme Court on Monday is scheduled to hear a clutch of pleas challenging the new farm laws as well as the ones raising issues related to the ongoing agitation at Delhi borders. The eighth round of talks between the Centre and the farmer unions on January 7 appeared heading nowhere as the Centre ruled out repealing the contentious laws while the farmer leaders said they are ready to fight till death and their 'ghar waapsi' will happen only after 'law waapsi'.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray meets Bhandara fire victims' kin, orders safety audit

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said orders have been issued for conducting safety audit of all hospitals in the state, after 10 newborn babies died in a hospital fire in Bhadara. Thackeray flew in from Mumbai in the afternoon and met parents of the babies who died in the fire on Saturday. He also spoke to hospital and health officials.

Haryana Police use water cannon, teargas shells to stop farmers’ march to Karnal

Haryana Police on Sunday used water cannons and lobbed teargas shells to prevent protesting farmers from marching towards Kaimla village in Haryana's Karnal district where Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will address a 'kisan mahapanchayat'. Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the chief minister's visit to the village where he will speak to people to highlight the “benefits” of the Centre's three farm laws. Farmers, who have been demanding that the laws be repealed, had earlier announced to oppose the 'kisan mahapanchayat'.
