New Year gift! Indian Railways extends run of festival special trains

On the first day of the New Year, Indian Railways has decided to extend the run of festival special trains. The Northern Railways in a tweet said that the authorities decided to extend the services in view the passenger volume.

With 20,036 fresh coronavirus cases, tally nears 1.3 crore; recoveries inch closer to 9.9 million

With 20,036 new cases, the total number of coronavirus cases has reached 1,02,86,710 in India on Friday, as per the Union Health Ministry bulletin. The total number of COVID-19 active cases has reached 2,54,254 while recoveries have reached 98,83,461. As many as 23,181 coronavirus patients were recovered and discharged from the hospitals in the last 24 hours.

PM Modi to lay foundation stone of light house projects at six sites via video conferencing today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Light House Projects (LHPs) under Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC)-India at six sites across six States at 11 am today through video conferencing. PM Modi took to his Twitter handle to make the announcement. “On the first day of 2021, will be taking part in a programme aimed at transforming India’s urban landscape. Will lay the foundation stone of Light House Projects and distribute PMAY (Urban) and ASHA-India awards,” he tweeted.

Very dense fog engulfs Delhi, zero visibility in parts of NCR

Dense to very dense fog and cold wave conditions prevailed in Delhi on the first of the new year, reducing visibility at many parts of the national capital and the NCR region. The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier predicted that the cold wave condition will continue in Delhi for the next two days.

Padma Vibhushan awardee Pt Birju Maharaj asked to vacate govt accommodation, Delhi HC stays Centre's notice

The Delhi High Court on Thursday stayed the notice issued by Centre to renowned Kathak artist, Birju Maharaj, asking him to vacate the government premises allotted to him by December 31, 2020. The bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru stayed the notice issued by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs directing renowned/eminent artist to vacate the government allotted accommodation, till the next date of hearing. Court also sought response of respondents in the matter and slated the matter for January 22, 2021.

Delhi: Dense fog shrouds national capital; mercury dips to season's lowest at 3.3°C

Dense fog over Delhi reduced visibility to just 50 metres, as the minimum temperature in the city dipped to 3.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the season's lowest so far, the India Meteorological Department said. It is also the third consecutive "cold wave" day in the city, said Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre.
