J&K: Terrorist killed during encounter with security forces in Parimpora

A militant was killed in an overnight encounter in the Parimpora area of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday. Militants had opened fire on security forces during a cordon and search operation in the Parimpora area on Tuesday evening, a police official said. He said the cordon was strengthened after and the two sides exchanged fire intermittently throughout the night. One militant has been killed so far, the official said, adding the operation was in progress.

India extends temporary ban on flights to and from UK till January 7

Union civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Wednesday that the Centre has extended the temporary suspension of flights to and from the United Kingdom till January 7, 2021. The flights operations were suspended because of a new strain of the Sars-CoV-2 virus. The development came after 20 people, who have returned from the UK to India, have tested positive for the new Covid-19 variant

Delhi shivers under cold wave as temperature drops to 3.5° Celsius, New Year's eve to get colder

A cold wave swept Delhi on Wednesday as the minimum temperature dipped to 3.5 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said. It is likely to get even colder on New Year's Eve, it predicted, as dry and icy winds barrelled though the plains.

India records 20,550 new COVID cases in 24 hrs, tally at 1.02 cr; active cases at 2,62,272

India on Wednesday recorded as many as 20,550 new coronavirus cases in a span of 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1,02,44,853, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The recoveries crossed 98 lakh with 26,572 new discharge, while the death toll increased to 1,48,439 with 286 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed
