Maharashtra: Idols, believed to be of 12th century, found in Palghar

Three sculptures, believed to be of the 12th century, have been found in a tribal-dominated village here, a district official said on Monday. Some residents of Jamsar village in Jawhar taluka of Maharashtra's Palghar district were digging a lake on Friday when they found the sculptures buried underground, Jawhar tehsildar (revenue officer) Santosh Shinde said.

'Will quit politics if someone tries to abolish MSP': Manohar Lal Khattar

Puri-Surat Express train derails after hitting elephant between Hatibari, Maneswar stations

Puri-Surat Express Train (02827) derailed on Monday after it hit an elephant on the railway track. The incident was reported at nearly 2:04 am in the wee hours of Monday, between Hatibari and Maneswar railway stations. Any casualties or injuries were not reported in the incident, in which six wheels of the train derailed.

Andhra govt to launch watershed projects in five districts

The Andhra Pradesh government is launching the Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agriculture Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) project in five parched districts and also the tribal belt in the Visakhapatnam district of the state, to be implemented over the next six years.

BJP, Shiv Sena lock horns as MVA govt proposes shifting metro car shed to bullet-train project site

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed officials to explore shifting of Metro car shed from the proposed Kanjurmarg land under litigation to other sites which include the land set aside for the Centre's Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. Thackeray said Aarey car shed spread over 30 hectares was just for Metro line 3, while the 40-hectare Kanjurmarg land would be used for the car shed for Metro lines 3, 4 ((WadalaGhatkopar-MulundTeen Hath NakaKasarvadavali) and 6 (Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg).

Delhi's minimum temperature rises to 5.5 degrees C; air quality 'very poor'

Delhi's minimum temperature rose slightly to 5.5 degrees Celsius on Monday under the influence of a fresh western disturbance affecting the upper reaches of the Himalayas. “This a fast-moving Western Disturbance (WD) and it will withdraw on Tuesday. Thereafter, the temperatures are expected to drop again,” Mahesh Palawat, an expert at Skymet Weather, a private forecasting agency, said.
