Election Commission mulls providing digital voter ID card to voters

The Election Commission (EC) is toying with the idea of providing voters with election photo identity card in a digital format for easy accessibility, a senior official said. He, however, made it clear that no decision has been taken by the EC yet in this regard.

Telangana CM meets Amit Shah in Delhi

COVID-19 test mandatory for tourists visiting Nainital, Mussoorie: Uttarakhand HC

The Uttarakhand High Court has ordered mandatory COVID-19 test of tourists visiting Nainital and Mussoorie. In an order dated December 9, Acting Chief Justice Ravi Kumar Malimath and Justice Ravindra Maithani of the high court said tourists visiting the two popular tourist towns be tested for coronavirus at the time of entry.

India's COVID tally crosses 98 lakh-mark with 30,005 new cases; death toll mounts to 1,42,628

With 30,005 Covid cases registered and 442 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's tally crossed the 98 lakh mark on Saturday, according to Health Ministry data. The tally mounted to 98,26,775 while the death toll jumped to 1,42,628. The total active cases continued to remain below 400,000 for a seventh consecutive day.

Farmers to block more highways today as govt says stir being taken over by 'anti-national' elements

Protesting farmers have threatened to escalate their stir today and are likely to block more highways around Delhi. This comes after the government on Friday asked farmers to be vigilant against their platform being hijacked by "anti-social" as well as "Leftist and Maoist" elements. Photographs of some protesters at the Tikri border seen holding posters demanding release of activists arrested under various charges had gone viral, prompting Tomar to say that these "anti-social elements" are conspiring to spoil the atmosphere of the peasants' movement under the guise of farmers.

Parts of Delhi receive light rains, thunderstorms; temperature drop likely

Parts of Delhi received light rains early on Saturday and according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the downpour is likely to bring the maximum temperature down by a few notches. The rains are a result of a Western Disturbance passing over the Himalayas, an IMD official said, adding the mercury is expected to drop by two to three notches by Monday with the wind direction changing to northwesterly, it said.
