MP farmer finds 14.98 carat diamond in patch of land leased for Rs 200

A farmer in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal has found a 14.98-carat diamond in a 10x10 patch of land that he had taken on lease last month for just Rs 200, The TOI reported. The diamond was auctioned for Rs 60.6 lakh on Saturday, it said. Identified as Lakhan Yadav, the 45-year-old farmer said the incident has changed his life.

Transgender will now be included as separate gender category in prison statistics

The Central Government on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that transgenders shall be now included as a separate gender category in prison statistics reports. This comes after a public suit was filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to recognize and classify transgenders as a separate third gender in their annual publication of prison statistics.

Gujarat: 19 moderate-intensity earthquakes shake Gir Somnath

As many as 19 earthquakes of magnitudes in the range of 1.7 to 3.3 were experienced in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district from the wee hours of Monday till morning, officials said. There was no report of any casualty or loss of property, they said. A senior official at the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) called the phenomena as "monsoon-induced seismicity," generally experienced in a few areas of Gujarat's Saurashtra region after two-three months of heavy rainfall, and said there was nothing to worry about.

India's active Covid cases below 4 lakh, overall tally nears 97 lakh-mark

India detected 32,981 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active coronavirus cases in the country to 3,96,729, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Monday. With 39,109 new recoveries, the number of overall recovered COVID-19 patients stand at 91,39,901, pushing the recovery rate to 94.37 per cent today.
