No 'shaurya diwas' or ‘black day’ on Babri anniversary as Ayodhya moves on

The 28th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition was unlike previous years with both Hindus and Muslims refraining from holding any special event to mark the day on Sunday even as there was a heavy security deployment in the town to ensure peace. However, Hindu Mahasabha, a right wing Hindu outfit, took a "pledge" on the banks or river Saryu for the “liberation of the temples of Kashi and Mathura on the lines of Ayodhya" as it marked the occasion.

India's active Covid cases below 4 lakh, overall tally nears 97 lakh-mark

India detected 32,981 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active coronavirus cases in the country to 3,96,729, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Monday. With 39,109 new recoveries, the number of overall recovered COVID-19 patients stand at 91,39,901, pushing the recovery rate to 94.37 per cent today.

Section 144 imposed in Noida's Gautam Buddh Nagar till Jan 2 amid COVID-19 surge

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the restriction imposed under Section 144 CrCP across Noida and Greater Noida till January 2, 2021, in wake of the coronavirus crisis in the district. In an order issued late on Sunday night, the Noida police said that public gatherings and holding of congregations will remain banned across Noida and Greater Noida during the period. The decision has been taken in wake of the upcoming Christmas festival and the New year celebrations.

Five suspected terrorists arrested from Delhi's Shakarpur area, weapons recovered

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested five suspected terrorists from the city's Shakarpur area after an encounter. According to the information available, two of the five arrested men are from Punjab. The remaining three are from Kashmir.

SAD appeals to Punjabis to support Bharat Bandh call on Dec 8

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday appealed to Punjabis to support the 'Bharat Bandh' on December 8 called by farmer unions against the new farm laws. Badal also said his party would work assiduously alongside the peasantry to ensure the repeal of the new agri-marketing laws. Stating that "the fight for justice" had now become a fight of the 'annadaata' (someone who provides food) against the central government, the Shiromani Akali Dal chief said, "I am confident that the mass agitation will force the Centre to 'bow down' before the demands of farmers."

Dense fog engulfs Delhi-NCR; visibility drops

Delhiites woke up to a foggy morning on Monday, as a thick layer of fog engulfed the national capital. Apart from Delhi, the fog was also witnessed in the National Capital Region including Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram and Noida. Due to low visibility and ongoing farmers' protest, traffic has slowed down across the capital.

Centre plans fact-check campaign on farm laws as protests enter 12th day
