CAA likely to be implemented from January: Kailash Vijayvargiya

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act is likely to be implemented from January next year, as the Central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are keen to grant citizenship to the large refugee population in West Bengal, senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Saturday. The BJP national general secretary accused the TMC government of not being sympathetic to the cause of the refugees.

Pfizer seeks emergency use authorisation for its COVID-19 vaccine in India

After securing a clearance by its parent company in the United Kingdom and Bahrain, Pfizer India has become the first pharmaceutical firm to seek from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) an emergency use authorisation for its COVID-19 vaccine in India. The firm, in its application submitted to the drug regulator, has sought permission to import the vaccine for sale and distribution in the country, besides waiver of clinical trials on Indian population in accordance with the special provisions under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019, official sources said.

Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway's first phase to be open for public from May: Uddhav Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said the first phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway from Nagpur to Shirdi will be thrown open to public on May 1, 2021. The chief minister made the announcement after reviewing the work at Shivni-Rasulapur in Nandgaon-Khandeshwar taluka of Amravati district.

Farmers in no mood to relent. What's the solution now?

Farmers are in no mood to compromise even as the government has softened its stance on some demands to include in the new farm laws. Farmer leaders have clearly stated that the agitation will continue till the farm laws are repealed and the MSP is legalised. Thousands of farmers have laid siege to Delhi's border points mostly from Punjab and Haryana. Farmers from other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and others have not extended support to the agitation because they see no reason to oppose the three new laws. This silence is surprising and raises multiple questions on the ongoing protest.
