Amidst the farmers’ agitation, the Central government has procured more paddy on MSP than the last years, with purchase of over 318.00 LMTs of paddy up to November 30, an official statement said on Tuesday.

Earthquake tremors felt in Ghaziabad

An earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale hit Ghaziabad on Wednesday morning. According to the National Centre for Sesimology, the tremors were felt at 4.05 am at a depth of 5 kilometres.

Dr Reddy's, RDIF commence clinical trials for Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in India

Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) on Tuesday said they have commenced adaptive phase 2/3 clinical trials for the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in India. The trials have commenced after receiving the necessary clearance from the Kasauli-based Central Drugs Laboratory, they added.

'Adverse event' won't halt Oxford vaccine trial: Health Ministry

The initial findings into an 'adverse event' allegedly suffered by an Oxford COVID-19 vaccine trial participant in Chennai did not necessitate halting of the trials, the Centre said on Tuesday while clarifying that the 'adverse event' will not affect the timelines of vaccine rollout in any manner. The Union Health Ministry further said that the 'adverse event' during the Serum Institute of India (SII) trial was being reviewed by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to ascertain if there is any causal link between the event and the shot administered to him.

India records 36,603 new COVID cases in a day; tally nears 95 lakh-mark, active cases decline

With a single-day spike of 36,603 fresh Covid cases, India's caseload rose to 94.99 lakh on Wednesday, according to Health Ministry data. The death toll climbed to 1,38,122 after 501 more fatalities were recorded, while the recoveries surged to 88,89,585, according to the data updated on Wednesday.

UP: 8 killed after sand-laden truck overturns on parked car in Kaushambi

As many as eight people were killed after a truck laden with sand overturned on a car parked on the roadside in Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place at Devi ganj intersection of Kadhadham Kotwali in UP's Kaushambi. Two people are still feared trapped inside the car.

Farmers to intensify stir, unions call meeting to chalk out strategy; security beefed up at Delhi borders

A day after talks with the government failed to end the standoff over the new farm laws, the agitating farmers have called meeting on Wednesday to chalk out the future strategy. Thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana are currently camping on Delhi border to press for their demand to including MSP in the new laws. Farmers fear that the new farm laws will dismantle the minimum support price system and corporatise the agriculture sector. Today is the seventh day of their protest.
