Delhi reports over 7,800 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours; 91 more deaths

Delhi recorded 7,802 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day taking the infection tally in the national capital to over 4.74 lakh on Friday, while 91 more fatalities in the same period pushed the death toll to 7,423, authorities said. These fresh coronavirus cases were detected from 56,553 tests conducted the previous day. Delhi recorded a positivity rate of 13. 80 per cent amid the festive season and rising pollution in the city, according to the bulletin issued by the health department.

41 trains cancelled, 11 short terminated as farmers' protest continues in Punjab

At least 41 trains were cancelled, while 11 trains were short terminated in Punjab as farmers' body continues protest against the Centre's farm laws. Mostly, trains on the New Delhi-Katra route have been affected, a release by the Northern Railway said. Farmers in Punjab have been protesting against the three agriculture laws -- The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 -- since they were passed by the Parliament.

South Central Railway ships 4 cr litres milk from Andhra to Delhi

The South Central Railway (SCR) zone has so far shipped four crore litres of milk from Andhra Pradesh's Renigunta to New Delhi via "Doodh Duronto Special" trains amid the Covid pandemic, a railway official said on Friday. "Doodh Duronto Special, introduced during the lockdown period from Renigunta to Hazrat Nizamuddin to supply milk to the people of the nation's capital, crossed the four crore litres mark on Thursday," SCR spokesman Ch. Rakesh said.

Moderate intensity earthquakes hit Assam

Separate moderate earthquakes measuring 3.7 and 2.8 on the Richter scales hit two central Assam districts on Friday, officials said. According to the Disaster Management officials, no report of loss of life or damage to property has been received yet. A tremor measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale hit Karbi Anglong district at 3.23 pm and it was at a depth of 11 km.

Farm laws row: Centre offers to hold more discussions with Punjab farmers

The government has offered to hold discussions with the representatives of farmers' bodies from Punjab, to resolve the matter on the new farm laws enacted by the Centre. This comes after Union ministers on Friday met the representatives of farmers' bodies from Punjab. Talking to the media after the meeting, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said there is a wide gap between their (farmers') demands and Central government's stand, which doesn't look like resolving soon, and therefore, it was decided to continue the talks on the issue.
