Rajasthan: 11-day long Gurjar agitation over reservation called off

A major Gurjar organisation on Thursday called off its 11-day agitation over reservation in jobs and education after reaching a consensus with the Rajasthan government, a community leader said. The protesters had been squatting on a rail track in Bharatpur's Bayana affecting traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai rail route. They had also blocked the Hindaun-Bayana road.

Builder ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh for delaying flat possession

The Consumer Commission has ordered a builder in Maharashtra's Thane district to pay Rs 1 lakh to a home buyer for delaying the possession of a flat. In a recent order, the commission's presiding officer S Z Pawar and member Poonam V Maharshi accepted the complaint lodged by a couple from Titwala against M/S Vimal Enterprises.

Tamil Nadu withdraws order allowing socio-political, religious events in wake of COVID-19

Order allowing social, political, religious and cultural events from November 16 and permitting the participation of a maximum of 100 people was cancelled by the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday. Citing festival season and people congregating in large numbers in public places throwing anti-COVID-19 norms like social distancing to the winds, the government said curbs shall continue as regards such programmes and it includes those related to entertainment and education.

Undisclosed income worth over ₹500 cr detected as IT raids Chennai bullion firm

Undisclosed income of over Rs 500 crore has been uneathed by the Income Tax department during multiple raids at the premises of a leading bullion trading firm in Chennai, the CBDT said on Thursday. The searches were carried out at 32 locations in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, Madurai and Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

New genus of treefrog discovered in Andaman Islands, Northeast India

A new genus of the old world treefrog family has been discovered in Andaman Islands and Northeast India, researchers said on Thursday. A study led by Delhi University Professor S D Biju along with a team of researchers from India, China, Indonesia and Thailand, said this is for the first time a tree frog species, Rohanixalus vittatus (Striped Bubble-nest frog), is reported from the Andaman Islands of India. The new genus Rohanixalus is named after the Sri Lankan taxonomist Rohan Pethiyagoda.
