'Not prudent': RSS-affiliate SJM denounces firecrackers ban ahead of Diwali

Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an RSS affiliate, has urged the state governments not to impose a blanket ban on the sale of firecrackers on the occasion of Diwali. Ashwani Mahajan, national co-convener of SJM, said that governments have been taking action like banning all types of firecrackers ahead of Diwali without any "factual information".

Haryana bans sale of firecrackers ahead of Diwali

The Haryana government announced a ban on the sale and bursting of firecrackers across the state. The statement was made by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who said a notice on the same will be issued on Saturday. "Earlier we had decided to ban the sale and bursting of firecrackers in NCR and Panchkula area. But now we have decided to ban it across the state, notice will be issued tomorrow (Saturday)," he said.

Thick blanket of smog shrouds Delhi, lowers visibility

A thick blanket of smog shrouded parts of Delhi on Saturday morning, leading to a decreased visibility in the region. The noxious smog is said to be a result of raging farm fires and unfavourable weather deteriorating the air quality in the national capital. It was only yesterday that the Supreme Court had asked the Centre to ensure there is no smog in Delhi.

India records 50,356 new coronavirus cases, 577 deaths in a day

India's total coronavirus cases mounted to 84,62,080 with 50,356 new infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 1,25,562 with 577 new fatalities, data updated by the Union Health Ministry at 8.00 am on Saturday showed. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 78,19,886, pushing the national recovery rate to 92.41 per cent, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

J&K: Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC, IB in Poonch, Kathua

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Kathua districts in violation of the ceasefire, officials said on Saturday. Mortar shelling in the Mankote sector along the LoC in Poonch started around 2.30 am, while the cross-border firing along the IB in the Hiranagar sector continued throughout the night, the officials said.
