Strengthen the festival of democracy: PM Modi urges voters across 10 states to vote in large numbers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged voters from across the country to come out in large numbers to cast their votes and strengthen the festival of democracy. Voting for the by-election in 54 Assembly seats spread across 10 states began today morning. Taking to Twitter, the prime minister said urge those voting in these seats to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.

After UP and Haryana, MP mulls law against love jihad

The Madhya Pradesh government will make legal arrangements to curb the alleged practice of love jihad in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday. With this, Madhya Pradesh has become the third BJP- ruled state to announce its intention to make legal provisions against "love jihad".

Less than 50 pc students attend classes as Andhra allows schools to reopen after 5-month hiatus

Less than 50 per cent students attended classes in Andhra Pradesh, as most of the government schools reopened for ninth and 10th standard students in the state after a five-month hiatus following the coronavirus pandemic. Sharing attendance statistics, Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh said only 39.6 per cent ninth standard students attended classes and only 43.65 per cent students from tenth standard.

Railways plan to start Bengal local train services with 50 pc of passenger strength

Railway authorities are keen to resume local train services in West Bengal allowing 50 per cent of passenger strength and ensuring that COVID-19 safety protocols are followed strictly, officials said on Monday after a meeting with top state government officers. Initially, they were targeting to resume the operations with 10-20 per cent of the normal services which will be slowly increased to 25 per cent, they said. Planning on ticketing, route selection and the number of trains to be operated are being made and the final decision on resumption of the services will be taken at a meeting on November 5, said Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.

Earthquake jolts Meghalaya

An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale hit Meghalaya in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to the National Center for Seismology, the tremors were felt at West Khasi Hills at 1:13 am.

Supreme Court asks AG about bail conditions of sexual crimes' accused

While hearing a case wherein the Madhya Pradesh court had ordered an alleged molester to visit the victim and allow her to tie a rakhi on his wrist, the Supreme Court on Monday asked Attorney General KK Venugopal and other lawyers to recommend ways to improve gender sensitivity and the kind of bail conditions that need to be set while giving bail to those accused of sexual crimes. The case was being represented by AG, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, who spoke on behalf of the intervenors, women lawyers represented by Senior Advocate Sanjay Parikh.

Gurjar agitation: Several trains diverted in Rajasthan after protestors lay siege on rail tracks, check list

The movement of rail traffic has been affected severely in Rajasthan due to the ongoing Gurjar agitation. Routes of as many as eight passenger trains in the Kota division were either diverted or changed due to the blockade, thus affecting traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai rail route. The movement of traffic was disrupted on the Bayana-Hindaun road.
