Economist Abhijit Banerjee supports giving money to Durga puja committees by Bengal govt

Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee has backed the West Bengal governments decision to support Durga puja committees of the state with ₹ 50,000 each, saying that organisers need the additional amount to adopt COVID-19 safety protocols.

Maharashtra govt caps price of N-95 masks for sellers, private hospitals

The Maharashtra government has capped the price of N-95 masks, which will be applicable to mask suppliers and private hospitals. The development was confirmed by state health minister Rajesh Tope, who said N-95 masks can be supplied in Maharashtra at a price range of Rs 19 to Rs 49 while double and triple layer masks will be available at Rs 3-4 per unit.

5 dead, over 30 injured after bus travelling from Malkapur to Surat rolls down valley

At least five people were killed after a bus rolled down a valley near Kondaibari Ghat near Visarwadi in Maharashtra. According to the details, the accident occured while the bus was travelling from Malkapur to Surat. The deceased include three passengers, the bus driver and the cleaner. Thirty-four others were also injured in the bus accident.

India's 50% population may be infected with coronavirus by February 2021, govt panel says

At least half of India's population might be infected with the novel coronavirus by February 2021, a government committee tasked with providing projections told news agency Reuters on Monday. The report, however, also mentioned that COVID-19 infections in India have been decreasing after a peak in mid-September.
