Cinema halls continue to remain shut in Andhra Pradesh

Cinema halls and multiplex screens remained shut in Andhra Pradesh through the Centre permitted them to reopen to half capacity from Thursday under Unlock 5.0. Film exhibitors made it clear that they could not resume shows given the various constraints, primarily the steep maintenance costs.

Woman who set herself ablaze in front of UP Assembly, dies

Anjana Tiwari a.k.a. Aisha, the woman who had set herself ablaze in front of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday, has succumbed to burn injuries. According to doctors at the hospital, she had suffered over 85 per cent burn injuries and she lost the battle on Wednesday night.

Mumbai Rains: Heavy downpour triggers waterlogging in parts of city, IMD issues red alert

Mumbai experienced heavy rains overnight along with thunderstorm and lightning, causing water-logging in some low-lying areas. Mumbai recorded decade's highest 24-hour October rainfall. Due to intermittent spells of heavy downpour, Mumbai recorded its second-highest monthly rainfall (144.8mm) in a decade. The highest was in 2012 when 197.7mm of rainfall was recorded in October.

NIA suspects Dawood Ibrahim links to Kerala gold smuggling case

Some of the accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case have links with the gang of Dawood Ibrahim, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told a special court in Kochi on Wednesday. The NIA, probing the gold smuggling case, also said the accused visited Tanzania several times where the underworld don has an extensive network. Further, the NIA said the accused had challenged the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in the smuggling case, arguing that smuggling comes under economic offence and no terror angle was involved in the case.
