Telangana Rains: Heavy downpour lash Hyderabad, other districts; mother, daughter killed in roof collapse

A 40-year-old woman and her daughter died after the roof of their house collapsed in Ibrahimpatnam area of Hyderabad on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas. The woman and her 15-year-old daughter died on the spot, while her son escaped with minor injuries when the roof of their old house collapsed around 8.00 pm, police said.

Cinema halls in Uttar Pradesh to reopen from Thursday. Check COVID-19 guidelines

The Uttar Pradesh government issued guidelines on Tuesday for reopening of cinema halls, theatres and multiplexes with 50 per cent of their capacity from Thursday. The guidelines have been issued for the opening of cinema halls, multiplexes and theatres, which are located outside the containment zone, Chief Secretary R K Tiwari said in a statement.

Hathras gangrape victim's family wants case shifted out of Uttar Pradesh, says lawyer

Family members of the Hathras woman who died after being allegedly gang-raped appeared before the Allahabad High Court on Monday and their lawyer said they wanted the case shifted out of Uttar Pradesh. Deposing before the Lucknow bench of the high court, Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxar said there was no pressure from the state government to conduct the victim’s cremation in the middle of the night, implying that the local authorities took the controversial decision.

Rajasthan: Protests over pregnant woman's death in Churu called off

The protest over the death of a pregnant woman in Rajasthan's Churu district last week was called off on Monday after successful talks between a delegation of agitators and the administration over various demands, an official said. The breakthrough came a day after a violent protest over the death, with a mob pelting stones and vandalising vehicles. Police resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Five security personnel were injured in the stone pelting, an official had said.

5th accused in TRP scam arrested in UP by Mumbai Police
