Assam to close down all state-run madrasas, Sanskrit tols

The Assam government will close down all state-run madrasas and Sanskrit tols (schools) as it can't afford to teach religious scriptures with public funds, state Education and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. "Our government's policy we had announced earlier in the state Assembly. There should be no religious education with the government's funding," he told the media. "We have nothing to say about privately-run madrasas and Sanskrit tols," he added.

Kolkata Police directs organisers of Durga Puja to follow COVID- 19 regulations

The Kolkata Police have asked the Durga Puja organisers to follow all COVID- 19 regulations. "We are working on all the guidelines given by the government. We offered all cooperation to the CP today," said Somen Dutta, an office-bearer of the Forum for Durgotsab and the general secretary of Kashi Bose Lane Puja Committee, which organises one of the most popular pujas in the city.

Jammu and Kashmir issues guidelines for Unlock 5.0. Check details

As the government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued fresh guidelines for unlock 5.0, Secretary Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and Member Secretary State Executive Committee, Simrandeep Singh on Friday gave details about the allowed and not allowed activities. Addressing a press conference, the Secretary said the government has permitted several activities, however, all COVID norms shall be followed to keep infection at bay.

UP: BJP MLA's relative shot dead in Ghaziabad

A 60-year-old relative of a BJP MLA was shot dead on Friday morning in Ghaziabad, police said. The victim identified as Naresh Tyagi was the maternal uncle of BJP legislator from Muradnagar Assembly constituency Ajit Pal Tyagi and brother-in-law of former minister Raj Pal Tyagi.
