400 water bodies revived in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district

As a part of the 'One Village One Pond' initiative, the Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh has revived 406 ponds in the past four months. The initiative has also provided employment to about 11,000 migrant workers who had returned to their villages during the pandemic. According to official sources, there are 496 village Panchayats in Jhansi and the work on the remaining 90 ponds is still going on. The work is likely to be completed by the end of this month.

An earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale hit Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake tremors were felt in Tawang at 8:21 am today.

India records 70,495 new COVID-19 cases, 964 deaths in a day; tally crosses 69-lakh mark

India on Friday recorded as many as 70,495 new coronavirus cases and 964 deaths in the last 24 hours, the lowest in months, according to Union health ministry data. India's COVID-19 tally crossed 69 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 6,906,151 while the death toll climbed to 1,06,490 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 8,93,592 are active cases, 59,06,069 recovered, according to the health ministry.

COVID-19: Jammu and Kashmir classifies districts into red, orange, green zones

The government has classified all districts of Jammu and Kashmir excluding the Kishtwar district in Jammu division as orange zones following the assessment of the Covid-19 situation in the Union Territory. "The categorisation of districts into red, orange and green zones will be followed for the purpose of implementation of permitted activities in the respective districts as per a separate order, to be issued by the State Executive Committee (SEC)," reads an order issued by the Chief Secretary, J&K and Chairman, State Executive Committee, BVR Subrahmanyam on Thursday.

Ram Vilas Paswan — the stalwart of Indian politics — dies at 74; condolences pour in

Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, one of the most prominent Dalit leaders of the country who had been a part of several governments headed by rival parties, died on Thursday at the age of 74. The Lok Janshakti Party founder and Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution was admitted to a private hospital for several weeks and had recently undergone a heart operation. His condition deteriorated over the past 24 hours and he breathed his last at 6.05 pm, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said in a statement.
